Facebook is launching a new monetisation program, Facebook Content Monetisation, in October, which will streamline and expand earning opportunities for content creators.
This beta program combines three existing monetisation options — In-stream Ads, Ads on Reels, and the Performance Bonus — into a single system that allows creators to earn money from a wider variety of content formats, including Reels, longer videos, photos, and text posts.
“Since we announced Facebook-funded monetisation in 2017, more than four million content creators have earned money on Facebook,” the company highlights. Over time, payouts have increased significantly, especially as monetisation expanded from just longer videos to also include Reels and posts. In the past year, Facebook has paid creators more than $2 billion for their content, with payouts for Reels and short videos growing by more than 80%.
The new program simplifies the monetisation process, addressing issues with previous systems where creators often missed opportunities or were ineligible for certain formats. Currently, only about one-third of monetising creators on Facebook earn from more than one program. Facebook Content Monetisation will change this by requiring creators to join only one program, from which they can monetise multiple formats and view their performance with a unified set of insights.
Why is this important?
Facebook has clarified that the payout model will remain the same, tied to content performance. “Facebook Content Monetisation is built on the same performance-based payout model that powers Ads on Reels, In-Stream Ads, and the Performance Bonus,” the company explains. Creators who have already been successful with Ads on Reels will continue to earn in the same way, but now they will have the opportunity to monetise additional formats such as longer videos, photos, and text posts.
Eligibility for the beta program will begin with invitations to one million creators who are already monetising content on Facebook. Invitations will continue to roll out in the coming months. Although open enrollment won’t be available until 2025, Facebook is encouraging creators to express interest in early access to the beta by visiting Facebook for Creators.
The introduction of Facebook Content Monetisation represents a significant step in making it easier for creators to earn money from a variety of content formats, supporting their growth and success on the platform.
