Google releases 3 new Chrome AI features for enhanced Search

Google Chrome is introducing three new AI features aimed at enhancing the Search experience: these include advanced Google Lens capabilities, a product comparison tool called Tab Compare, and an improved method for rediscovering browsing history.

All 3 features leverage the latest Google AI and Gemini models.

First, Google Lens, previously available on mobile, is now integrated into the Chrome desktop. This tool allows users to select and search any content on a webpage without leaving their current tab. By clicking the Google Lens icon in the address bar or using the right-click menu, users can highlight text or images to initiate a search.

The results, displayed in a side panel, can be refined using multisearch options like color or brand, or by asking follow-up questions. For instance, selecting an image of a plant can yield identification and care instructions, while highlighting a math equation from a video can provide relevant explanations and links.

Second, the Tab Compare feature is designed to streamline online shopping. Recognising that users often switch between multiple tabs to compare products, Chrome will soon offer an AI-generated comparison table. This table, accessible from a suggestion next to open tabs, consolidates key details such as product specifications, features, prices, and ratings. For example, if a user is researching Bluetooth portable speakers, Chrome will collate all the relevant information from different tabs into one easy-to-read table, aiding in quicker and more informed decision-making.

Lastly, Chrome is enhancing its history search functionality. Users will be able to search their browsing history using natural, conversational queries.

Why is this important?

For instance, typing “What was that ice cream shop I looked at last week?” will bring up relevant pages. This feature, initially available in the U.S., allows for more intuitive data retrieval of previously visited sites. It is optional and can be toggled on or off in the browser settings. Importantly, it does not include data from incognito mode.

Google claims that these 3 new AI-driven features will make Search faster, safer, and more efficient. By integrating advanced search capabilities, simplifying product comparisons, and improving history searches.
