Snapchat launches AR experience for Paris 2024 Olympic Games with NBC

The world’s top athletes are gathering in Paris for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and fans globally can follow the excitement through Snapchat. This platform offers a variety of ways to engage with the Games, including official highlights, creator content, and unique augmented reality (AR) experiences.

Official Highlights and Creator Content

Official broadcasters like NBC Universal and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) are providing highlights to bring fans closer to the athlete action. NBC Universal is also enabling content creators to offer unique perspectives of the Olympics and Team USA, enhancing the fan experience with personal and engaging content.

Augmented Reality Experiences

For the first time, fans can experience the Games on an unprecedented scale through AR on Snapchat. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and various commercial partners have launched immersive AR experiences to inspire and engage viewers worldwide.

  • The IOC has created a unique AR interaction with the official Games poster, which comes to life when scanned. This is accessible via the official Games app and the IOC’s Snapchat profile.

Arcadia’s AR Experiences:

  • Arcadia, Snapchat’s AR studio, has partnered with NBC Universal to provide AR experiences for Gen Z fans in the US. These include personalized tune-in recommendations, real-time stats, and introductions to Team USA athletes and their Bitmojis, including Paralympian Ezra Frech.
  • Coca-Cola and Snapchat are introducing the world’s first AR vending machine in the athletes’ village, offering photo ops, games, prizes, and refreshments.

Enhanced Content and Coverage

NBC Universal’s collaboration with Snapchat brings creators to the Olympic Games for the first time. Influencers like gymnast Livvy Dunne, reality star Harry Jowsey, streamer Kai Cenat, musician Enisa, and gamer Duke Dennis will cover various events, including the opening ceremony and key sports competitions.
